Protection You Can Count On
Insurance & Liability
Your belongings matter. That is why every Painless Removals move comes with comprehensive insurance cover as standard — included in your quote at no extra cost. We have been protecting families' possessions since 1978, and we believe you deserve to know exactly what is covered before your move begins.
Goods in Transit Insurance
£15,000 Cover Per Van
Every van on your move carries £15,000 Goods in Transit insurance. This covers your belongings against accidental damage, loss, or destruction from the moment we collect them from your home until they are delivered to your new property.
This is not an optional add-on. It is included in every quote we provide, at no extra cost to you. We believe proper insurance should be standard, not a premium feature.
Your cover applies while your items are being loaded, in transit on the road, being unloaded, and temporarily stored in our care as part of the move. If you are using our storage service between collection and delivery, your belongings remain fully insured throughout.

Public Liability Insurance
Protection for Your Property
Alongside Goods in Transit cover, Painless Removals holds comprehensive public liability insurance. This protects you against accidental damage to your property — both the home you are leaving and the one you are moving into.
If our team accidentally damages a wall, doorframe, banister, floor, or any part of the property structure during the move, our public liability insurance covers the cost of repair or restoration. This applies at both the collection and delivery addresses.
We take extensive precautions to prevent property damage in the first place. Our crews use floor runners, door protectors, banister wraps, and corner guards as standard on every move. But accidents can happen, and when they do, you are fully covered.
Property damage we cover includes:
Honest Transparency
What's Not Covered
We believe in being upfront. No removal company can cover absolutely everything, and we would rather tell you now than surprise you later. Here is what our standard insurance does not cover:
Items packed by you without professional packing
If you pack your own boxes, we cover the box as a whole unit but cannot accept liability for breakages of individual items inside. We have no way of knowing whether fragile items were wrapped properly. Our professional packing service ensures everything meets insurance standards.
Items of extraordinary value not declared in advance
If you have individual items worth more than £15,000 — fine art, antiques, rare collections — please declare them before the move. We can arrange additional specialist cover, but only if we know about them. Undeclared high-value items may not be covered to their full worth.
Cash, jewellery, and personal documents
Keep cash, jewellery, passports, birth certificates, and important legal documents with you personally on moving day. These items should travel in your own vehicle, not on the removal van. This is standard practice across the industry.
Perishable goods, plants, and living things
We are happy to transport plants and perishable items if you wish, but we cannot guarantee their condition on arrival. Temperature changes, movement, and transit times can affect these items in ways beyond our control. Pets should always travel with you.
Pre-existing damage or wear
Damage that existed before the move — a chip already on a table, a scratch already on a wardrobe — is not something we can claim responsibility for. If you have concerns about existing damage, please point it out to the crew before loading and we will note it on the inventory.
Why we share this openly
We know this level of transparency is unusual. Many removal companies bury their exclusions in fine print, and customers only discover them when something goes wrong. We would rather you knew the full picture from the start. It is one of the ways we have built trust with families across Bristol since 1978.
Claims Process
How to Make a Claim
We hope you never need this section. But if something does go wrong, we want the process to be as straightforward as the move itself. Here is exactly how it works:
Report the damage within 7 days
Contact us by phone on 0117 287 0082 or email at [email protected] within 7 days of delivery. If you notice damage on moving day, let your Move Manager know immediately — they can document it on the spot.
Provide photos and a description
Take clear photographs of the damage from multiple angles. Include a brief written description of what happened, the item affected, and its approximate value or age. The more detail you provide, the faster we can process your claim.
Submit your written claim
Send your photos and description to us via email. We will acknowledge receipt within 2 working days and provide you with a reference number for tracking.
Assessment and resolution
We assess every claim fairly and promptly. For straightforward claims, we aim to reach a resolution within 14 working days. More complex cases involving specialist repair or high-value items may take up to 28 working days. We will keep you updated throughout the process — you will never be left wondering what is happening.
Our commitment to fair resolution
We handle claims directly — you deal with us, not a distant insurance company. Our goal is always a fair outcome, whether that means professional repair, replacement, or financial compensation at current market value. If you are ever dissatisfied with the outcome, our Move Assured membership provides an independent escalation route.
Accreditations
Move Assured Member
Painless Removals is a proud member of Move Assured, an independent accreditation body that vets removal companies on insurance cover, vehicle standards, staff training, and complaint resolution. Membership is not automatic — it requires meeting strict professional standards and maintaining them year after year.
Independent vetting
Our insurance documentation, vehicle maintenance records, and operating procedures are independently verified each year to maintain membership.
Dispute resolution
If you are unhappy with how we handle a claim or complaint, Move Assured provides a free, independent mediation service to resolve the issue fairly.
Professional standards
Move Assured members must meet strict criteria for staff training, vehicle condition, packing materials, and customer communication. It is the mark of a serious, professional mover.
